Alan is originally from central Illinois but has lived in West Seattle since 1998. He studied chemical engineering, earning a BS from Washington University (St Louis, MO), MS from the University of Illinois, and PhD from Rice University (Houston, TX). After many years as a biotech research engineer, his life-long love for math lead him to start tutoring math students. The tutoring expanded over time and led him to also become a part-time teacher until this opportunity at Seattle Lutheran. Alan is currently teaching Geometry, Advanced Algebra, and PreCalculus. He and his wife Barb have raised three sons. He is an active member and volunteer at Holy Rosary Church. Alan also has a passion for running – he has run in nearly three hundred 10-kilometer races.
