As we look forward to getting back to the classroom on Monday, we would like to share the next phase of entering the building for in-person instruction. Our foremost concern is the safety of the students, staff and families at Seattle Lutheran. As we continue to make the school as safe as possible, teachers, staff and board members have been working to determine how best to approach the next few weeks. Our goal is to create confidence in our procedures and routines. To do this, we feel the best policy is to start slowly. For at least two weeks beginning the week of September 14, the school will offer in-building instruction two days only per week. All students and teachers who have opted to come to campus will come in on the same two days, which will be Monday and Tuesday, one Red Day and one Blue Day. The rest of the week will be at-home instruction. On Thursdays and Fridays, students who are taking studio art courses may also meet in-building if they choose. In this case, students taking 1st or 4th period art would attend their art class in the morning, move to the gym to attend their 2nd or 5th period virtually, and then leave campus at lunch. Students with 6th period art would arrive at school during lunch, attend art class, then move to the gym to attend their 7th period virtually.

One benefit of this schedule is that it gives students and teachers time to learn the protocols and observe what works and what might need adjusting. This slower transition will also help increase the sense of trust and confidence among the students and staff. For many people, coming into school will be the first time they venture into an organized group setting of more than ten people outside of their immediate family. It also helps limit the initial exposure to a larger number of people while allowing in-person instruction for those who have chosen it. Teachers who have chosen to teach virtually will also get a taste for what it’s like to teach individuals who are home and at Seattle Lutheran. This schedule will give students, teachers and staff time to learn new building procedures, make needed adjustments, and build confidence, in order to proceed to having in-person learning four days a week.

We anticipate that we will remain in this phase for two weeks. The goal is to be on campus four days a week beginning the week of September 28th. Because we care deeply for each and every student entrusted to our care, we will do that only when we know we have done our best to keep everyone as safe as possible. While we know this change may require people to  adjust, we hope the underlying safety concerns will make those adjustments easier.

Thank you for trusting Seattle Lutheran in this uncertain time.  Go Saints!

In Him,

Dave Meyer (Executive Director)

Jen Foster (Teacher representative)

Meredith Zandi  (Teacher representative)
